Graders avail free eyeglasses – General Santos City
Around 167 Grade 2 pupils from different schools in the city availed free eyeglasses from the City Eye Health Team (CEHT) of General Santos and Rotary Club of General Santos City Area 3F District 3860 during the culmination program of Sight for A Child and Sight Saving Activity on December 12, 2017 at SM Mall Atrium, this city.
The said activity was organized by the Department of Health (DOH) Region 12, doctors from the Optometric Association of the Philippines-Gensan Chapter, Department of Education (DepEd) R12 Nurses and Teachers and the General Santos City Health Office.
Dr. Lalaine M. Calonzo, RMT, CFP- Blindness Program Coordinator, acknowledged the participants and visitors especially the sponsoring dignitaries while Dr. Alex Donald E. Villanueva- Ophthalmologist and team leader of CEHT gave the welcome address and delivered the rationale and purpose of the activity.
Mr. Nerio Regollo, Rotary Club President of Area 3F District 3860 in his message acknowledged the support of the LGU Gensan and the City Eye Health Team for enabling the activity make a big difference in the lives of children with eye problems in the city.
Ms. Anna Rizza C. Napila, RN, Division Head Nurse of DepEd 12 conveyed the message of Mr. Gildo G. Mosqueda, CEO VI, DepEd- Schools Division Superintendent saying, “Love, Hope, Caring and Unity bind us together in giving and implementing all the programs and helping the program of the DepEd in General Santos particularly in building the learners of our city.”
Mr. Rombel S. Catolico, Division Chief of City Public Information Office, conveyed the message of the City Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera and he also thanked the partners in the said event.
“The learning of our children takes two to tango, they say, with the support of the parents and the teachers in schools. I hope we will help each other in realizing and materializing the dream of our Mayor, that there should be no single child left behind,” Catolico said.
Meanwhile, Ms. Vanessa L. Villanueva, a teacher from Dadiangas South Elementary School and formerly one of the beneficiaries of this project in 1992 shared a testimony and gave an inspirational message to the children. (CPIO/Pido/RSC)
