DPWH renames city’s circumferential road
Because a hero’s name is worth written in stones, the General Santos City Circumferential Road has been renamed Albert Morrow Boulevard in consonance with Department Order No. 112, series of 2017 signed by Secretary Mark A. Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The issuance of the order was made after the Sangguniang Panlungsod passed Resolution No. 367, series of 2017 requesting DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar to name the GSCCR to Albert Morrow Boulevard.
The resolution proponent, Hon. Rosalita T. Nunez, MNSA, Ph.D., said she is very happy for this development especially to the Pioneers and Descendants of General Santos City and to all those who are history conscious in the City.
“Finally I had fulfilled my promise to my late mother-in-law Ezperanza Olegario-Nuñez, to give justice to the local hero Albert Morrow. I had authored naming the circumferential road, Albert Morrow Boulevard,” Nuñez said.
She is also thankful for the support of Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera and Vice Mayor Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles and the rest of the City Councilors, who made this renaming a reality.
Eng. Albert Morrow was one of the pioneers of the city who ventured here together with then NLSA Administrator Gen. Paulino Santos.
He was tasked by General Paulino Santos to take charge of the settlement when the latter was summoned to go to Manila. He took to heart his responsibility taking care of the settlers and their problems and needs.
He offered his life by commiting Harakiri (Suicide) in exchange of safety and protection of the settlers knowing the Japanese Code of Behavior that valued honor above life. (CPIO/jpa/RSC/datb)
